Product Care
Wholesale Larimar has established and maintains the highest standards in design, materials and craftsmanship. We create jewelry for you to wear for years to come. There are however certain things that you can do to care for your jewelry, Larimar is a very hard and durable stone, however certain chemicals such as those found in some cleaning supplies can “etch” the surface of the stone, leaving it looking dull. Dust, pollution and daily wear can also dull the surface of silver and gold. Improperly maintained clasps can result in the total loss of a valuable piece, we recommend some simple, basic care which can help preserve and protect your jewelry, keeping it secure and looking good for many years.
Professional cleanings are recommended as frequently as once a year, depending on how often it is worn. Care must be taken however to stress to the Jeweler that this is a natural stone, and they should avoid overheating it (the hardest stones such as corundum’s and diamonds are cleaned in a steam bath), they will clean the setting, and if necessary add a slight polish to the surface of the stone to enhance its brilliance. Between professional cleanings most jewelry can be maintained with a non abrasive jewelry cleaner, there are many commercial products available on the market, we recommend using one that is rated for pearls. Pearls are very soft and delicate; any cleaners rated for pearls will not damage your Larimar.
We recommended purchasing a jewelry polishing cloth; they are quite inexpensive and will last a very long time. You can then buff each piece before you store it, this will remove any dirt and oils from you body, both of which will speed up the tarnishing process. Examine your Jewelry regularly to make sure the stone settings are snug and all of the clasps and connectors are secure. If hit against a hard surface the setting may become damaged and require repair. Take care to protect your jewelry from impact against hard or abrasive surfaces, even a diamond can chip if hit with enough force at just the right angle. Avoid exposing your Larimar Jewelry to household detergents, especially bleach, which can discolor the stone and the setting. Silver tarnishes rapidly in sea air and in the presence of sulfur (certain papers are sulfur rich). Perfumes, cosmetics and hairspray can also damage jewelry, as can chlorine in a swimming pool. Occasionally a person’s body may produce oils which are extremely damaging. If any of these happen we recommend washing the piece in a very mild solution of warm soapy water and a small amount of ammonia. Rinse well before drying and storing. Store each piece separately. Wrap each piece in fine fabric or use individual compartments. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Sunlight can cause many gemstones to fade.
